Outpatient Program Q & A

What is an outpatient program?

An outpatient program allows you to receive the care you need to detox and recover from an addiction without checking into a full-time inpatient facility. With outpatient programs, you live at home and maintain a normal routine while you spend time in the clinic getting your treatment.

What types of outpatient programs are available?

First Step Recovery Center offers three types of outpatient programs. The best one for you depends on your diagnosis and individual needs.

The frequency, length, and purpose of each appointment depend on variables like the medications you receive, the stage of your detox or recovery, and your ongoing addiction counseling.

The three outpatient programs are:

Standard outpatient program

Patients in a standard outpatient program require a less structured treatment format and typically spend 2-5 hours a week at the clinic. After an initial evaluation, the team determines if you’re a good candidate for a standard outpatient program.

However, this option works well for people who are highly motivated to stop using their substance(s) and need to maintain a full work schedule.

Intensive outpatient program

People in the intensive outpatient program spend 10-15 hours each week in treatment. During this time, they work with physicians, therapists, nurses, and case managers, getting the support they need to detox, stabilize, and move through recovery.

Partial hospitalization program

A partial hospitalization program provides highly structured addiction medicine and counseling. You receive treatment during the day and go home at night. Your addiction and detox may need immediate partial hospitalization, or this program may be the step-down treatment you need after an inpatient program.

What services will I receive during my outpatient program?

You can access the full scope of addiction and mental health care available at First Step Recovery Center. Your program may include one or more of the following:
